Oysters, Clams, Lobsters, Oh My! Keeping it Low Fat, Gluten Free and Delicious While Traveling

Over the past week I have been in seafood lover’s heaven – Boston.  I ate so much seafood that I really believe I felt my cholesterol rising.  Fortunately, seafood is gluten free, and low in calories and fat, except when you drench it in butta.  Anyway, I just had to share my experience with the raw bar while at a dinner party at Tufts University (beautiful campus!).  I don’t consider myself to be adventurous, but when I saw how long the line was at the raw oyster and clam bar, I had to check it out.


So there I am, face all frowned up at the thought of something raw and slimy slithering down my throat.  I mean, I love oysters and clams, but they must be breaded and fried!  I’m a southern girl, you know.  And then I thought about the fact that I eat sushi, real raw sushi.  This can’t be too different, right?  Plus, I was really tipped off by the number of people swooning over the display, waiting probably 10 minutes just to get a taste.  All of this let me know, I’m probably going to like this.

 So I doctored it up with a zesty splash of Tabasco, tangy chopped onion, a fresh squeeze of lemon wedge, held my breath, closed my eyes, and hoped for the best.

And I must say, once I got to the other side of this scary experience… I liked it!  I really liked it!  (You can tell because my pinky went up.)

And when that was over, I was rewarded for my efforts with a little taste of labstah (in my Boston accent).


Boston, you treated me well.  I will be more than happy to come and visit you any time.

I don’t think I gained any weight while there, but I do believe I may need to have my cholesterol checked. 😮  By the way, does this now make me adventurous?
